Dear Parents,
This week we held our Science Fair. It was a great success! The children’s hard work showed in their excellent presentations. They were excited to learn about the interesting experiments conducted by the other grades. I want to thank all of you that were able to join us.
Next week, we will have our annual field trip to Green World on Tuesday, May 1. I posted a link to their website on my blog yesterday. It is an excellent site that has a guide map, information on all of the attractions, and several language options (Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, and English). Your child may ask to use your camera as they will be making travel brochures highlighting their favorite attractions.
Now for the weekly curriculum update… In Math, we completed Chapter 15: Graph Data, the last chapter in Unit 5. We will begin Unit 6: Geometry and Measurement on Monday, starting with Chapter 16: Plane Figures. In Science, we began Chapter 8, Lesson 3: Slow Changes to Earth’s Surface. We will complete this lesson this coming week, take the Chapter 8 test the following week, and begin Chapter 9: Managing Earth’s Resources. In Social Studies, we went over the Chapter 5 test and began Chapter 6: Industry Takes Over. In English, we completed Unit 6: Pronouns. They will take the two part test this coming week on Wednesday and Thursday. We will also begin Unit 7: Adverbs and Prepositions. In Reading, we will continue with Marven of the Great North Woods.
In addition to the core curriculum, we will be spending some time next week continuing our preparations for the IOWA test series that begins Monday, May 7. During the testing week, we will continue having regular lessons, but there will be no homework. Please ensure that your child gets enough rest during this week. This will help them to perform their best on these tests.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Best regards,
Mr. Ahlers
