Back to School

Dear Parents,

This week started with our annual Easter Egg Hunt; a great way to return to school after the break!  Next week, we will have our annual Pottery Day on Wednesday, April 18th.  Grade 4 will be making their pieces from 8:40 – 9:10.

It has been a busy week, covering core curriculum and continuing preparations for the upcoming Science Fair on Wednesday, April 25th. The students are excited about this event and working hard to create interesting presentations.  Grades 4 – 6 will be presenting their projects from 9:00 – 10:15.  Please join us if your schedule allows.

In Math, we began Chapter 14: Collect and Analyze Data, covering up to Lesson 4: Line Plots.  We will complete this Chapter on Monday, review on Tuesday, and have the test on Wednesday, April 18th.  We will then begin Chapter 15: Graph Data.  This is another fairly short chapter, five lessons, which we will complete the following week.  In Science, we continued with Chapter 8, Lesson 2: Rapid Changes to Earth’s Surface.  We will complete this lesson next week and begin Lesson 3: Slow Changes to Earth’s Surface the following week.  We will be spending some class time this week preparing for the upcoming Science Fair.  In Social Studies, we continued with Chapter 5, Lesson 3: Farms and Mills.  We will complete Lesson 3 early next week, review for the Chapter 5 test, and have the test on Thursday, April 19th.  We will then begin Chapter 6: Industry Takes Over.  In English, we continued studying Unit 6: Pronouns, completing up to Lesson 4: Using I and me.  We will complete this unit by the following week, and the students will take their test over the material on Thursday, April 26th.  In Reading, we began Theme 4: Problem Solvers with the first story My Name is Maria Isabel.  We will complete this story early next week, review the target comprehension and language skills, and take the test on Friday, April 20th.  The following week we will begin our new story, Marven of the Great North Woods.

Also next week, we will begin setting a little time aside each week to prepare for the IOWA tests which will be held the week of May 7 – 11.  The children will take some practice tests and learn test taking strategies.

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Best regards,
Mr. Ahlers
