Dear Parents,
Another week has passed… time seems to go by so quickly. The children had a lot of fun dressing up for Spirit Week! As you know the poor weather conditions early this week led to the cancelation of Wednesday’s relay races. The races have been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 28th.
This coming week we will be having our Musical Scavenger Hunt. This is the second year for this event, and Ms. Faye has once again created a fun and interesting game of friendly competition to test the children’s knowledge of music, including history and theory. If you are able, please feel free to join us for this wonderful event. Grade 4 will be competing against Grade 3 on Wednesday, March 21st from 1:00 – 3:00. I have added other upcoming dates to the blog calendar.
In regular classes, we were able to accomplish most of our goals for the week. In Math, we completed Chapter 12: Customary and Metric Measurement and the test will be on Monday, March 19th. On Tuesday, we will begin Chapter 13: Time and Temperature. It is a relatively short chapter, five lessons, so we will complete it early the following week. In Science, we began Chapter 8: Forces that Shape Earth’s Surface, starting Lesson 1: The Rock Cycle. We will complete that lesson early next week and begin Lesson 2: Rapid Changes to Earth’s Surface. In Social Studies, we continued with Chapter 5, Lesson 2: Building Ships, which we will conclude on Monday. We will then begin Lesson 3: Farms and Mills, concluding Chapter 5: Using Land and Sea early the following week. We will then begin Chapter 6: Industry Takes Over. In English, we concluded our study of Unit 5: Capitalization and Punctuation. The children will take a two-part test on Monday, taking part A earlier in the day and completing part B at the end of the day. We will then begin Unit 6: Pronouns, which will take two to three weeks to complete. In Reading, we completed Heat Wave. The children will take a comprehension and skills test on Tuesday. We will then begin a literature comparison of The Borrowers and Lord of the Fleas. This comparison will complete Theme 3: That’s Amazing. We will begin Unit 4: Problem Solvers on our return from the spring break.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
I hope you have a lovely weekend!
Best regards,
Mr. Ahlers
