Dear Parents,
International Week was a great success! The students had a lot of fun and the opportunity to learn about an array of countries: India, Brazil, Australia, Egypt, Austria, Italy, Canada, and, of course, Madagascar. It was an excellent way for them to practice their research and presentation skills. They all did a fantastic job!
With all of their hard work, I am sure they are ready for the upcoming short week. Please remember there will be no school on Monday and Tuesday. I look forward to seeing their smiling, well rested faces on Wednesday.
Now for the weekly course work update. In Math, we completed Chapter 11: Divide by Two-Digit Divisors, concluding Unit 4: Division of Whole Numbers. On Wednesday, we will begin Chapter 12: Customary and Metric Measurement, the first of four chapters in Unit 5: Measurement and Graphing. In Science, we will cover Chapter, Lesson 3: Fossils next week. This is the last chapter in our Life Sciences unit. After a thorough review, they will take the Chapter 7 test on Wednesday, March 7th. We will then begin our Earth Science unit. Also in Science, due to the time devoted to International Week and the upcoming short week, I have changed the due date for the Endangered Animal project to Monday, March 5th. In Social Studies, we concentrated on our study of Madagascar. Next week, we will continue our study of the Northeast region of the United States. In English, We will continue our study on Unit 5: Capitalization and Punctuation next week. In Reading, we will begin our new story, Heat Wave, a tall tale about a Kansas farm hit by extreme weather.
Also, please take a moment to look over my blog. I have added some useful links, which can be found on the right side and some pictures from International Week. I will continue to add links as I discover useful and interesting sites.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
I hope you have a nice holiday!
Best regards,
Mr. Ahlers
