Dear Parents,
Chinese New Year will be arriving soon. I am sure the children are excited about the upcoming break after the few weeks back at school. The second semester will begin when we return. Please let me know if your child will not be attending school for a few days or will be leaving early next Friday due to holiday plans. With the end of the semester, there will be a few tests next week. The last test will be on Tuesday so it should not interfere with any travel plans.
We have covered much material this week. In Math, the students took their Chapter 8: Understand Division test and began Chapter 9: Divide by One-Digit Divisors. The Chapter 8 test had one of the highest class averages of the year with 96%! We will complete Chapter 9 on Monday and have the test on Tuesday. When we return, we will begin Chapter 10: Number Theory and Mean. In Science, we completed Chapter 6: Matter and Energy in Ecosystems and will have the test on Monday. We will start on Unit C: The Solid Earth when we return. In Social Studies, we completed Chapter 4: From Field to Factory and our study of the Southeast United States. The Chapter 4 test will be on Tuesday. When we return, we will begin studying the Northeast United States. In Reading, we completed Boss of the Plains and took some skills tests based on that story’s focus. Next week, we will review the skills addressed in Theme 2: American Stories by comparing two types of writing, a historical fiction story about Amelia Earhart and Eleanor Roosevelt and a nonfiction piece about Duke Ellington. We will start on Theme 3: That’s Amazing when we return. In English, we completed Unit 4: Adjectives and the test will be on Monday. Next week, we will review the grammar skills developed over the first semester. When we return, we will begin Unit 5: Capitalization and Punctuation.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Best regards,
Mr. Ahlers
