The week's end

Dear Parents,

Another busy week has come to an end.  In addition to regular classes, the children have been responsible for creating the bulletin board for the HIS word of the month, which is thankful.  We will put all the items they have been working on up on Monday.  It is going to look great!  When it is completed, I will post a picture on my blog.  You are of course welcome to take a look next time you are at school.  It will be on the large display board outside the cafeteria.

The children also began to prepare for Literacy Week.  As you may know, we are conducting a Read-A-Thon to raise money for a local charity and the school library.  Our goal is for every student to find at least five sponsors to support their efforts.  Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Now on to the regular class update.  In Math, the children took their test over Chapter 6.  They did an excellent job!  We also continued with Chapter 7, covering up to Lesson 5: Problem Solving – Reasonable Answers.  We will complete Chapter 7 early next week, have the test on Thursday, and begin Chapter 8.  In Science, we continued discussing Chapter 5: Parts of Ecosystems.  We reviewed Lesson 1, finished Lesson 2, and began Lesson 3.  We will complete Lesson 3 next week and their test will be the following week.  In Social Studies, we began Chapter 4: From Field to Factory.  We covered Lesson 1 and will complete Lesson 2 next week.  In English, we completed the Unit 3: Verbs.  The second part of the verb test will be on Tuesday.  We will spend most of English time next week on activities for Literacy Week.  In Reading, we completed the first reading of Tanya’s Reunion.  We will continue with that story in the coming week.  Some of reading time will also be dedicated to Literacy Week activities.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Best regards,
Mr. Ahlers
