End of the week...

Dear Parents,

It was an excellent week in 4th grade.  The students really enjoyed Awareness Week, and we discussed many issues related to appropriate social interactions.  We engaged in several activities to emphasize the importance of proper behavior and to highlight the potential consequences of improper conduct for the parties involved.  We will continue to discuss issues this week and they will complete posters to demonstrate what they have learned.  There will be a contest between 3rd and 4th grade with three winners.

In Math, the students took their chapter 5: Algebraic Reasoning test and did very well.  We also began chapter 6: Multiply by One-Digit Numbers, completing up to lesson 3.  We will complete chapter 6 this week and begin on chapter 7: Multiply by Two-Digit Numbers.  The chapter 6 test will be next Tuesday.  In Social Studies, we covered chapter 3, lesson 3: A Cotton Kingdom and will review chapter 3 on Monday.  The chapter 3 test will be on Thursday.  We will begin chapter 4: From Field to Factory this week.  In Science, we will begin chapter 5: Parts of Ecosystems this week.  This is the first chapter in the unit on ecosystems.  In English, we continued our study of verbs.  We covered up to Lesson 4, Subject-Verb Agreement.  In Reading, we continued Tomas and the Library Lady.  We will finish with that story on Tuesday and begin Tanya’s Reunion.  They will have a short test covering important details in the story, the vocabulary, and the spelling words on Friday.  In Art, the students created a split portrait to illustrate how they feel when they are happy and sad as part of Awareness Week.

Best regards,
Mr. Ahlers
