The end of the week

Hello Parents,

First, I would like to thank you for taking the time to meet with me on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.  It was a pleasure to talk with you.  I appreciate the feedback I received.  I will work to make sure your children develop as learners and have a positive classroom experience.  If you were unable to meet with me or have any concerns that you would like to address in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you also for promptly returning the Thanksgiving food sign-up forms.  This event, on November 24th, presents an excellent opportunity for the students and parents to gather together for a celebration of community.

Next week is Awareness Week.  Throughout the week, we will discuss issues regarding social relationships.  The students will participate in a number of activities to increase their awareness of how their and other’s behavior affects people’s feelings.  We will discuss strategies for responding appropriately when someone is engaging in behavior that is inappropriate toward them or a classmate.

Lastly, it was a busy week in 4th grade.  In Math, the students completed Chapter 5: Algebraic Reasoning.  We will review on Monday and have the test on Wednesday.  They will also begin Unit 3: Multiplication of Whole Numbers.  This unit consists of Chapter 6: Multiply by One-Digit Numbers and Chapter 7: Multiply by Two-Digit Numbers.  In Science, the children took their Chapter 4 test.  We will go over the test on Monday and begin Unit B: Ecosystems.  In Social Studies, the students completed Chapter 3: The Southeast, Lesson 2 and will begin Lesson 3 on Monday.  Next week, they will also begin working on their Southeast region state project.  In Reading, we began Theme 2: American Stories with Tomas and the Library Lady.  It is an excellent story about a young boy’s discovery of the joys of reading, which led him to become an author.  In English, we began Unit 3: Verbs.  We covered up to Lesson 3, past, present, and future tense.  Next week, we will be doing some writing regarding Awareness week and will begin journal entries about the children’s dreams the following week.

Best regards,
Mr. Ahlers
