The summer break is approaching fast...

Dear Parents,

It has been a very good week in Grade 4.  As the summer break quickly approaches, we are completing unfinished business and getting the classroom ready for our departure.  It has been a great year, and I am going to miss all of the students very much.  They are truly an exceptional class!

As mentioned, we continue covering the necessary material.  In Math, we completed Chapter 18: Perimeter, Area, and Volume.  Next week, we will cover Chapter 19: Understand Fractions.  In Science, we completed Chapter 9: Managing Earth’s Resources and began Chapter 15: Electricity and Magnetism, which we will complete next week.  In English, we completed Unit 7: Adverbs and Prepositions, and began Unit 9: Writing a Story.  The students will work on writing their own story, demonstrating what they have learned about parts of speech over the course of the year, for the remaining class time.  In Reading, we completed Dr. King.  Next week, we will read a story from Theme 6: Nature – Friend or Foe entitled, Wildfires.

Since we are in the final days of the school year, I would like to inform you of some upcoming events.  Next Friday afternoon, we will have a Water Fun day.  Please see the note below about what to pack for your child.

*Water Fun:  Our neighbors, the Fourth Graders, invited us for some water games on Friday morning.  All students should pack a bag with the following items:  swim suit, sunglasses, caps, beach towels, water bottle, sunscreen, water gun, flip flops or sandals.

Also, I would like to have a class party.  I am planning to hold it on Monday, June 18 for the final two periods of the day.  Please let me know if your child will not be at school on this day, so I can reschedule the party for later in the coming week.  I would like all of the children to be present, if possible.  It will begin at 12:30.  I will purchase pizzas.  I would like each child to bring an item: drinks, snack chips, or dessert.  Please let me know what item your child will bring by next Friday, June 15.  The children may bring games from home if they like.  I will have a few movies for them to choose from as well.  You are certainly welcome to join us if you like.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact if you have any questions or concerns.

I hope you have a nice weekend!

Best regards,
Mr. Ahlers
